Keep your documents in a cool, dark, and dry location. Avoid storing paper and photographs in attics or basements. Retain materials with important information or historic value and discard interleaving materials (e.g., glassine envelopes, tissue paper), paper clips, pins, staples, and rubber bands. All of these materials can be acidic, and can oxidize or degrade over time, causing damage to the materials you want to preserve. Purchase archival boxes, envelopes and tissues for storing you pieces. Give each piece its own enclosure or tissue. |
